Appetite — Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information the Appetite app ("Appetite", "we", "us") collects, why, and your choices. Appetite is a meal-planning app that stores your recipes and plans on your device and, if you create an account, syncs them to the cloud so you can back them up and share with your household.

Who we are

Information we collect

• Account information. If you create an account, we collect your email address and, where you provide it, your name. If you use Sign in with Apple, Apple may share a private relay email address instead of your real one.
• Your content. The recipes, cookbooks, weekly plans, shopping lists, portion sizes and household information you create. This is stored on your device, and — only if you sign in — synced to our cloud database so it can be backed up and shared with members of your household.
• Photos and recipe text you import. When you use photo import or autofill, the image or text is processed to extract recipe details (see "AI processing" below). We do not use your photos for any other purpose.
• Subscription information. Your subscription status (whether active and when it renews). Purchases themselves are handled by Apple; we and our subscriptions provider (RevenueCat) receive the status, and your email/name may be attached to your subscription record to help us support you.
• Usage analytics. Basic first-party analytics: a random per-install identifier, event names (for example "app opened", "recipe added"), the app version, platform, and timestamps. If you are signed in, these events are linked to your account so we can understand how the app is used and improve it.
• Diagnostics. Crash and error reports (including device model, operating system version and app state at the time) to help us find and fix bugs.

How we use your information

• To provide the app: store, back up and sync your recipes and plans.
• To enable household sharing when you invite others.
• To process recipes you import using AI (see below).
• To manage your subscription and provide customer support.
• To understand usage, fix crashes, and improve the app.

AI processing

When you use photo import or autofill, the relevant image or text is sent to our AI provider, Anthropic (the makers of Claude), through a proxy we operate, to extract recipe details such as ingredients, steps and nutrition. We send only what is needed for that task. We do not retain the images after processing, and this data is not used to train third-party models under our arrangement. Anthropic processes it in line with its own terms.

Who we share information with

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us run the app, each acting on our behalf:

• Supabase — cloud database, authentication and hosting for your synced content.
• RevenueCat — subscription management.
• Apple — Sign in with Apple, and App Store payments.
• Anthropic — AI processing of imported recipes, via our proxy.
• Cloudflare — the proxy that routes AI requests, and hosting for shared recipe links.
• Sentry — crash and error reporting.

We may also disclose information if required by law.

Where your data is stored

Your content lives on your device and, if you sign in, on our providers' servers, which may be located in the United States or the European Union. Data is encrypted in transit.

How long we keep it

We keep your account and synced content for as long as your account is active. You can clear the data on your device at any time using "Reset all data" in the app's Account tab. To delete your account and the data we hold in the cloud, contact us at appetite.mealplan@gmail.com and we will action it.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (including under UK and EU GDPR), you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise any of these, contact us at appetite.mealplan@gmail.com. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.

Children

Appetite is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date above, and significant changes will be reflected in the app.
